Helmet

Nathan received his helmet Tuesday. Grammy Aleta went with us. The fitting went very well. We expected him to cry and fuss, but he didn't. Buck brought in the helmet and showed us how to use it and went over some frequently asked questions with us. He first put it on Nathan to check to see what areas needed adjusted on the outside of the helmet. After he got that right, he adjusted the inside foam to fit Nathan perfectly. We then had to wait (play) in office for 15 minutes to make sure there wasn't any discomfort for Nathan and to check for bad red spots once we took it off. A couple minor adjustments were made and we were ready to go. He is wearing his helmet a few hours at a time right now, and not wearing it at night to allow for both him and us to adjust to it. After we meet with Buck again on Friday for a follow-up, we will begin the process of Nathan wearing it 23 hours per day. Buck is still telling us to expect him to wear it until he is 1 year old. He says that sometimes baby's progress quickly and don't have to wear it that long, so we will see. Nathan has really done well with it at home. He plays normally and doesn't really pay attention to it. He does seem to get kind of hot wearing it though... we take it off to find a sweaty little head! We are supposed to clean it with alcohol and water but they say that it will develop an odor that dads can appreciate. We decided to personalize it and start a countdown to his first birthday. It's hard to see our little guy wearing it, but it helps that it really doesn't bother him. Hope all is well with everyone and thanks for stopping by!
